Online Dating FAQ’s
To help our visitors get the most of their online dating experience, we have created this Frequently Asked Questions page. If you have any other questions you would like to see answered, feel free to contact us.
Why online dating?
It just makes sense. Meeting people in the traditional ways, through friends, meeting while out on the town, etc., will always be around, but you are relying solely on chance to find that perfect match. Compatibility is a major factor in successful relationships. You are not looking for your exact clone, but in addition to the fundamentals such as trust and love, common interests help to create a deep and long lasting relationship.
Instead of letting chance dictate your encounters, the internet brings together people who may otherwise never meet, but are perfect for each other. This will only increase as the popularity of singles dating sites increases.
Is online dating popular?
In the past few years, online dating has skyrocketed. One of the primary reasons for this has to do with the rise in popularity of social networking sites like myspace and facebook. Before these sites, meeting new people and conversing online was a relatively new thing. Meeting people online had a certain stigma attached to it. That is quickly fading away. Online dating is becoming a very common way to find a partner.
Can I really meet ‘the one’ online?
Absolutely! This happens everyday and is becoming more and more common. Meeting ‘the one’ online is no longer ‘taboo’. It has become a socially accepted way to meet new people.
Do people just date ‘online’?
The most common purpose for online dating is to meet local people and eventually meet up for that all important first date. However, on more rare occasions, some people broaden their search and strike up relationships in other states and even other countries, where they literally date online for months or even years before meeting in person. Again, this is rare, but it does happen.
How long does it take to create and set up an account?
That depends, the more thorough the match making system of a singles dating site, the longer it takes. For the casual dater, we recommend sites such as friendfinder.com or lavalife.com, their match making is not as in depth and lets the user start searching quicker. For the more serious dater, we recommend eharmony.com and match.com, these sites take a little longer to set up profiles, but in the long run it is better for those seriously looking for a relationship.
Is my information safe?
All the sites we recommend are known to protect the information of their customers.
How much does it cost?
Most sites offer users to set up free profiles and browse. However, if you want to connect with someone you are interested in you will need to upgrade to a paid membership. Online dating sites usually charge anywhere from $14.95 to around $59.99 per month. Each site giving discounts if you sign up for multiple months. Usually, the more you pay, the more in depth the experience with higher quality matches. This also helps to weed out others who aren’t serious as well.
What about those free date sites?
On free dating sites, you tend to find lower quality matches and a lot of fake/spam profiles you have to weed through to find ‘real’ people. It can be extremely frustrating and even dangerous, since anyone can set up a profile and the accounts aren’t attached to credit cards for identification purposes. We do not recommend free dating sites.
Should I use more than one dating site?
We recommend it. You may not necessarily want to pay for more than one at a time, but most sites allow you to create a ‘free profile’ that allows you to browse the other members. You will have limited access to the dating site features, but it will let you try each one out. We recommend trying out a site for at least 3 months. This will give you an opportunity to get an idea for who uses the site and the effectiveness of its match making system.
